If you’d told me at the start of 2019 that a 20-hour shoot would be the most enjoyable I’d have on a project to date, I’d have laughed at you, but the music video for Bedroom Bossa Nova was just that: chaos, delirium, imagination, exhaustion, but above all, fun.

Partly, this was due to the beautifully silly concept, but it was mostly because of the incredible cast and crew. The amazing music and acting of Imogen Rae, the fantastic camera work and production skills of Zach Brubert, the brilliant set design, makeup, costume and, of course, the sensational performances from everyone involved - all made those long 20 hours in a chapel worth it.

I hope some of that fun shows up on film.

This was also the first film I properly entered into festivals - Imogen attended our selection for the INDIs in Leeds, we received a glowing review from the British International Amateur Film Competition, and the music video was an official selection, semi-finalist and even finalist in a dozen other festivals.

Most excitedly (in my opinion), we were selected for the Roze Filmdagen Amsterdam LGBTQ film festival - walking around Amsterdam seeing banners showing the event waving everywhere, and looking at the amazing line-up of shorts, I was incredibly excited and honoured to be screened at such a prestigious festival. Sadly, the event was postponed due to precautions around Covid-19, and while we will be screened in late August, I will sadly be out of the Netherlands by then. Of course, the postponement was 100% the right thing to do - if anything the pandemic has taught us as filmmakers, it’s that some things are bigger than film festivals and laurels.
